Introduction
The Gunton Arms is a renowned country pub, restaurant and inn set within the 1,000-acre Gunton Park deer estate near Norwich, Norfolk. Reimagined from a former shooting lodge in 2011, it is best known for its food-led offering, focusing on seasonal British produce.
As a valued existing customer, The Gunton Arms commissioned us to carry out a complete renovation of the kitchen flooring, creating a slip-resistant surface designed to support the demands of a busy kitchen and ware-washing area while maintaining high standards of safety and food quality.
The project began with our engineers carefully removing all cooking and ware-washing equipment before stripping back the old, worn lino flooring. Once removed, the existing floor was fully prepared, ensuring it was level and taken back to the base layer to provide a strong, stable foundation for the new resin flooring system.
With preparation complete, coving was built up along the walls using Ardex concrete, creating a smooth, seamless transition between floor and wall. This detail is essential in commercial kitchens, as it improves hygiene standards by eliminating dirt traps and making cleaning more efficient.
A high-performance resin flooring system was then installed across the kitchen and ware-washing areas. To achieve a perfectly level surface, a black self-levelling resin was applied throughout. While still semi-dry, a layer of grit was broadcast into the resin to enhance slip resistance, helping to improve safety in wet and high-traffic working conditions.
Once cured, multiple coats of blue resin incorporating coarse aggregate were applied to create a durable, non-slip surface with a consistent finish. Resin flooring is ideally suited to commercial kitchen environments due to its strength, resistance to chemicals, heat, and moisture, and its seamless nature, which supports high hygiene standards and ease of maintenance.
After the flooring had fully dried, all kitchen equipment was carefully reinstalled, allowing the space to be handed back ready for immediate use. Despite a tight one-week programme, the project was completed on time and within the agreed timeframe, ensuring minimal disruption and enabling the kitchen to return to service as scheduled.
